M577A3 The M577A3 Tracked Command Post Carrier is an armored tracked amphibious vehicle.  It is a member of the M113A3 Vehicle Family developed and produced by BAE Systems. The M577A3 incorporates all of the mobility, reliability, and maintainability improvements of the M113A3, including powertrain, engine diagnostics, driver's station, and electrical system.  Power is supplied by a 275hp Detroit Diesel Corporation (DDC) 6V53T turbocharged diesel engine replacing the DDC 6V53 212 hp engine found in earlier M577s.  Teamed with the new engine is an Allison X200-4B (cross-drive) transmission.  The X200-4B transmission provides axis steer capability and a steering yoke in place of steering laterals.  The new powertrain also provides capacity for future growth. The 4.2 kW gasoline Auxiliary Power Unit (APU) has been replaced by a Tactically Quiet 5.0 kW diesel APU that can be operated from inside the vehicle and utilizes the vehicle fuel supply.  Kits to convert M577 vehicles to the M577A3 configuration are available.
